Business Systems Consulting
‘Business systems’ refers to the integrated and interconnected processes, procedures, principles and functions of a business. Often a business starts out with simple systems but does not upgrade or develop those systems as it changes. The business may end up with various applications designed to address different parts of the business processes, and this may become outmoded and inefficient. Conversely, sometimes a business signs up for an application that delivers far more than it will ever need and therefore pays for a service that is not useful.
As your business grows, your systems need to grow and change and evolve. The structure of the entity and the operations may change. The type of information you want from your financial reports may also change over time.
You may need to implement job-costing software that tracks prospects, leads, quotes, jobs and sales, with the ability to report on job profitability. Or it could be a more detailed solution for staff rostering and timesheets against locations worked. You may need a point-of-sale system that integrates with Xero. Other possibilities include inventory management, customer relationship management or industry specific tools.
We can work with you to analyse your current systems to see if they are achieving your goals or specific results. Are all your applications working together as a whole? Are the methods used in business transactions efficient and effective? Do you need to simplify or reduce the systems?
Implementing effective and appropriate systems has a range of positive effects: minimising wasted time; increasing efficiency, productivity and effectiveness; reducing the impact of staff leaving, as the systems will continue to drive the processes rather than being heavily reliant on individual knowledge; and creating metrics of business performance that are more easily accessed.
